The Italian Year · an almanac
Every sagra, feast and festival in our towns, month by month
541 recurring events · 343 towns · 20 regions · 322 of them sagre
Italy runs on a calendar older than the tourist one. Every town has a saint and a day for the saint, a harvest and a supper for the harvest, and somewhere in the year a weekend when the whole place cooks one thing in the piazza and charges you six euros for a plate of it. That is a sagra. This page is all the ones we have found and checked in the thousand towns, filed under the month they usually happen.
The dates change every year and the posters go up three weeks before, so we give you the month and the source and not a day. The calendar button puts a month-long note in your diary that comes back every year, with the source link inside it, so when you are planning you look in the right place at the right time. Type a town, a region, a dish or a word like “medieval” into the box to narrow the year.
