Most people arrive at a country through the four or five places they have already seen photographed. That is a reasonable way to start and a poor way to finish, because those places are also where everyone else starts.

Each of these takes one famous place and asks a narrow question: what else is within reach of it by road, in the same kind of landscape, that we hold a page for. The drive times are measured. The rule is printed on every page.
