What these towns are known for

A designation is somebody else putting their name to a place: a protected-origin product, a table a guide vouches for, a house worth the night. Everything below is documented and attributed, never our own rating and never crawled at a guess. Follow any of it to the town, where you will find the specific product, the specific restaurant, the specific hotel.

Signature products

Italian DOP, IGP, and DOCG

A short set chosen by hand: the products a town is genuinely the place people mean when they say the name. That is a bigger claim than sitting inside a production zone, which is what the full register further down documents. Open any of these and you get both, kept apart: the towns known for it, then the towns the legal zone covers.

Every Italian denomination we hold

855 protected denominations of wine and food, of which 167 are read down to the commune, from the production zone written into their own law. They are grouped by how tightly they belong to a place: a name carried by one town says far more than a name carried by thirty. Search for a denomination, or for a town.

We hold 688 further denominations whose production communes we have not enumerated yet. Nothing here means no town qualifies. It means the reading has not been done, and searching a name will still find it.
