La mission
L'Italie compte près de huit mille communes. Les voyageurs étrangers en entendent parler de cinquante, en visitent six et y font la queue. À quelques vallées de chaque place célèbre, il y a un village où l'école a fermé il y a une génération, où les jeunes sont partis en ville et où le bar décide chaque printemps s'il rallume la lumière.
C'est le même problème. Les lieux célèbres portent plus de visiteurs qu'ils ne peuvent en contenir, et les petits se vident faute de monde. Presque tout l'argent tombe d'un seul côté de cette ligne.
Anywhere Italy est un catalogue de mille de ces villages que l'on saute, chacun avec sa page : population, altitude, comment y aller sans voiture, quels labels il détient, quand y aller et ce que nous y avons trouvé. Cent euros dépensés à Florence disparaissent dans Florence. Les mêmes cent euros dans un village de quatre cents habitants se voient dans la caisse. Pour nous, c'est diriger l'argent vers les endroits qui le remarquent.
Il est écrit par Peter Benei et photographié par Sophia, qui ont quitté la Hongrie pour l'Italie en 2022 et vivent à Pietrasanta, en Toscane. Un village chaque dimanche, de leur propre voix, jusqu'à ce que le compte soit épuisé.

Anywhere Italy est un catalogue de mille petites villes italiennes que la plupart des voyageurs sautent. Chaque commune a sa page : population et altitude ISTAT, accessibilité en train, labels détenus (Borghi più belli d'Italia, Bandiera Arancione, Bandiera Blu, UNESCO, Cittaslow, parcs nationaux et autres), quand y aller, ce pour quoi elle est connue et, pour les villages que les fondateurs ont visités, leur propre reportage et leurs photographies. Le site publie des listes calculées sur l'ensemble du catalogue (villages de lac près de Milan, villages perchés accessibles en train, les communes de moins de cent habitants) et une lettre gratuite chaque dimanche sur un village par semaine. Il est écrit par Peter Benei et photographié par Sophia, Hongrois installés en Italie en 2022 et vivant à Pietrasanta, en Toscane. Le but déclaré du projet est de déplacer les visiteurs et leur argent des six lieux saturés vers les villages qui le remarquent.
Les fondateurs
Peter Benei écrit Anywhere Italy. Sophia prend les photographies. Ils ont quitté la Hongrie pour l'Italie en 2022 et vivent à Pietrasanta, sur la côte toscane. Immigrés, ils écrivent autant sur la vie locale et les coutumes que sur les paysages, parce que c'est ce qu'ils ont dû apprendre. Ils visitent un village à la fois et n'écrivent sur un lieu qu'une fois que l'un des deux y a été.

Le Top 100 : une sélection, pas un classement
Cent villages choisis parmi les mille selon une règle qui s'écrit. Ce n'est pas un palmarès et la page n'imprime aucun rang : deux villages à quelques points d'écart ne sont pas meilleur et moins bon, ils sont tous les deux ici.
La règle pondère la reconnaissance extérieure de chaque village. Une place sur la liste des Borghi più belli d'Italia, une Bandiera Arancione du Touring Club, une inscription UNESCO ou une finale du Borgo dei Borghi comptent beaucoup ; l'adhésion à une association du vin, de l'huile ou du pain compte peu et est plafonnée en groupe, parce qu'être dans une vallée qui produit trois choses est un fait, pas trois. Un restaurant cité par un guide ajoute un peu. Y être allés nous-mêmes ajoute un peu. Les chefs-lieux de province perdent des points ; les villages de moins de trois mille habitants en gagnent quelques-uns. Chaque région a deux places garanties et aucune ne peut en prendre plus de dix.
Méthode : labels pondérés, associations gastronomiques plafonnées, minimum 2 et maximum 10 par région, communes de moins de 20 000 habitants avec au moins une photographie. Recalculé à chaque build. Pondérations complètes dans le code source.
Groupés par région, du nord au sud. Chaque entrée porte la population ISTAT actuelle, l'altitude, les labels qui lui ont valu sa place et notre description éditoriale en une ligne. Les descriptions éditoriales sont en anglais.
