Die Mission
Italien hat fast achttausend Gemeinden. Reisende aus dem Ausland hören von fünfzig, besuchen sechs und stehen dort Schlange. Ein paar Täler von jeder berühmten Piazza entfernt liegt ein Ort, in dem die Schule vor einer Generation geschlossen hat, die Jungen in die Stadt gezogen sind und die Bar jedes Frühjahr entscheidet, ob sie das Licht wieder anmacht.
Das ist dasselbe Problem. Die berühmten Orte tragen mehr Besucher, als sie fassen können, und die kleinen leeren sich, weil niemand kommt. Fast das ganze Geld landet auf einer Seite dieser Linie.
Anywhere Italy ist ein Katalog von tausend Orten, die übersprungen werden, jeder mit einer eigenen Seite: Einwohner, Höhe, Anreise ohne Auto, Auszeichnungen, beste Reisezeit und was wir vorgefunden haben, als wir dort waren. Hundert Euro, in Florenz ausgegeben, verschwinden in Florenz. Dieselben hundert Euro in einem Ort mit vierhundert Einwohnern sieht man in der Kasse. Für uns heißt das: Geld dorthin lenken, wo es bemerkt wird.

Anywhere Italy ist ein Katalog von 1.000 kleinen italienischen Orten, die die meisten Reisenden überspringen, jeder mit einer eigenen datenreichen Seite, geschrieben von Peter Benei und fotografiert von Sophia aus Pietrasanta in der Toskana.
Kurzbeschreibung, lang
Anywhere Italy ist ein Katalog von tausend kleinen italienischen Orten, die die meisten Reisenden überspringen. Jeder Ort hat eine eigene Seite: Einwohner und Höhe nach ISTAT, Erreichbarkeit mit dem Zug, die Auszeichnungen, die er trägt (Borghi più belli d'Italia, Bandiera Arancione, Bandiera Blu, UNESCO, Cittaslow, Nationalparks und weitere), die beste Reisezeit, wofür er bekannt ist und, für die von den Gründern besuchten Orte, ihre eigene Reportage und ihre Fotos. Die Website veröffentlicht berechnete Listen über den ganzen Katalog (Seeorte bei Mailand, Hügelorte mit Bahnanschluss, die Orte unter hundert Einwohnern) und jeden Sonntag einen kostenlosen Brief über einen Ort. Geschrieben von Peter Benei, fotografiert von Sophia, Ungarn, die 2022 nach Italien zogen und in Pietrasanta in der Toskana leben. Erklärtes Ziel des Projekts ist es, Besucher und ihr Geld von den sechs überlaufenen Orten zu den Orten zu lenken, die es bemerken.
Die Gründer
Peter Benei schreibt Anywhere Italy. Sophia macht die Fotos. Sie zogen 2022 aus Ungarn nach Italien und leben in Pietrasanta an der toskanischen Küste. Als Zugewanderte schreiben sie ebenso über das örtliche Leben und die Bräuche wie über die Aussicht, weil sie das selbst lernen mussten. Sie besuchen einen Ort nach dem anderen und schreiben über einen Ort erst, wenn einer von beiden dort gestanden hat.

Die Top 100: eine Auswahl, kein Ranking
Hundert Orte, aus den tausend nach einer Regel ausgewählt, die man aufschreiben kann. Es ist keine Rangliste, und die Seite druckt keinen Platz: zwei Orte mit wenigen Punkten Abstand sind nicht besser und schlechter, sie sind beide hier.
Die Regel gewichtet die äußere Anerkennung jedes Ortes. Ein Platz auf der Liste der Borghi più belli d'Italia, eine Bandiera Arancione des Touring Club, eine UNESCO-Eintragung oder ein Finale beim Borgo dei Borghi zählen viel; die Mitgliedschaft in einem Wein-, Öl- oder Brotverband zählt wenig und ist als Gruppe gedeckelt, denn in einem Tal zu liegen, das drei Dinge hervorbringt, ist eine Tatsache, nicht drei. Ein von einem Führer gelistetes Restaurant zählt ein wenig. Selbst dort gewesen zu sein zählt ein wenig. Provinzhauptstädte verlieren Punkte; Orte unter dreitausend Einwohnern gewinnen einige. Jede Region hat zwei Plätze sicher, und keine darf mehr als zehn belegen.
Methode: gewichtete Auszeichnungen, gedeckelte Lebensmittelverbände, mindestens 2 und höchstens 10 pro Region, Gemeinden unter 20.000 Einwohnern mit mindestens einem Foto. Bei jedem Build neu berechnet. Vollständige Gewichte im Quellcode.
